Heating faults tend to be either ignition-side or airflow-side. Ignition problems show up as a burner that lights and drops out — often a dirty flame sensor, a failing igniter or a pressure switch reacting to a blocked flue. Airflow problems show up as a furnace that overheats and trips its limit switch, usually because of a clogged filter, a failing blower or restricted return air.
Any furnace repair should include a look at combustion safety. A cracked heat exchanger or a blocked flue is a carbon monoxide risk, and it is not something to defer. If we find one, you will be told plainly what was found and what the options are.
If you smell gas, leave the building first and call your gas utility's emergency line from outside. Do not operate switches on your way out.

(602) 203-2395That pattern — called short-cycling — usually means the furnace is overheating and tripping its limit switch, most often because of a clogged filter or restricted return air, or that the flame sensor is dirty and the burner is dropping out shortly after ignition. Replace the filter first, then have the sensor and airflow checked.
Heat pump supply air is cooler than furnace air — typically around 90–100°F, which is below body temperature and can feel cool at the register even though it is heating the house. Periodic defrost cycles, where the outdoor unit steams and the indoor fan pauses, are also normal in cold, damp weather.
